Villa in Argolis, Peloponnese
An ultra-modern country villa, a symbol of minimal architecture, created by the architect Fotini Xyrafi, in one of Argolida’s most beautiful landscapes, in Ermioni, right in front of the sea.
An ultramodern, minimal, geometric, luxurious, two family house in a forest of coniferous trees in the northern suburbs of Athens, the work of architect Nikos Ktenas, who introduced this architecture in Greece since 1990. These are two identical two-storey residences made of reinforced concrete, with patio in the space between them.
The outer bark is particularly interesting because it is like a chessboard. The openings alternate between the reinforced concrete walls. The load bearing system is at the same time the architectural structure.
The purpose of the static solution is to support this sculpture in a safe way, without altering the architectural solution at all.
Innovative is the use of steel elements, alongside reinforced concrete, inside and outside of this mass. The roof of the ground floor, facing the patio, has been suspended with steel hangers, and in all the bottlenecks of the nodes, steel cross-shaped profiles have been placed inside the concrete to strengthen the “weak links” and to avoid the possibility of failure under static or seismic loads.
The result is impressive and is a typical example of free geometric architecture.
