Family House, Pikermi, Athens

Family House, Pikermi, Athens

The Project

Luxurious residence in a suburb of Athens, in Pikermi, with an area of 2,000 m², consisting of basement and ground floor, a typical example of the free geometric design of the architect Yannis Aisopos.

The residence recalls the ancient Greek philosophy of “we live outdoors” in the courtyard, where we are visible from every point of the house. To this atrium, where the pool is located, all the house walls are made of glass, while the outer shell is made of reinforced concrete. The ground floor is covered with a high strength reinforced concrete roof, that appears to be “flying” as it rests on points on peripheral columns, so as not to obscure the view. There are openings on the roof and in the outer shell of reinforced concrete.

This is a courageous task of the well-known architect, which has led to an absolute link between architecture and statics.

Unfortunately, it was not realized.

Very interesting and innovative is the extensive folded plate structure, with large openings, made of high-strength, colored fiber concrete, which also contains the thermal insulation. Many of the slender columns are designed as a composite structure, with special emphasis on construction, operation, waterproofing, durability and rainwater management.
