The Project

This is a luxurious 2,000 m², located in Pikermi, a suburb of Athens.

The residence consists of a basement and a ground floor and is a typical example of free geometric design by architect Yiannis Aesopos.

The architectural design honors the “living outdoors” of ancient Greek philosophy, highlighting the interior “atrium” space, where we are visible from every point in the structure.

Around this “atrium”, where there is the swimming pool, all the walls are glass inside the house, while the outer shell is made of reinforced concrete.

The ground floor is covered with high-performance multi-folding reinforced concrete roof.

From the “atrium”, the roof appears to be “floating” in the air as it rests point-and-point on peripheral columns, so as not to interfere with the visibility inside the house.

Both the peripheral, outer shell of reinforced concrete and the roof itself also have large openings.

This is a bold project by the well-known architect, which highlights the decisive contribution of correct statics design to the realization of the architectural vision.

Very interesting and innovative is the extensive, multi-folding reinforced concrete roof shell with large openings, designed from high-strength fiber-reinforced, colored concrete, which in its thickness also contains the insulation.

Many of the columns are designed as composite columns so that they are no longer too slender.

Particular attention was paid to the details of construction, operation, waterproofing, durability and rainwater management.

Unfortunately, the project was not implemented.
