It is a clinker silo at the Lafarge Group “Aget-Heracles” plant in Milaki, Evia, made of reinforced concrete. It has a capacity of 25,000 tons of clinker, its diameter is 40 meters, its total height 23 meters and the thickness of the cylindrical shell 1 meter.
Its roof is made of metal frusto-conical construction and was erected partially.
In this way the inner scaffold was avoided.
The silo’s shell was founded on a surface foundation.
The cylindrical shell was constructed using conventional steel “formwork”.
The construction took just three months and then the conveyor lines were erected to connect the silo to the factory.
Particular attention was paid to the quality of concrete and the coating of reinforcement.
Strict requirements for “crack” control were also applied due to the large temperature differences between the clinker inside the silo and the external environment.
