The Project

Steel conveyor bridge for the transportation of cement raw materials to the Lafarge group “Aget-Heracles” plant in Volos.

The bridges have “spans” of 20 to 30 meters wide, are “simply supported” and rest on steel, A-shaped pillars.

The pillars are based on reinforced concrete foundations.

Particular attention was paid to keep deformations and oscillations during operation, within allowable limits, as well as to ensure the necessary resistance to earthquake and wind loads.

To this end, the method of “capacity design” for connections is applied, that is to say, the connection is not the weak link.

Careful, detailed design and over-dimensioning of connections is done.

The conveyor system also includes pillars at nodes and terminals, hoppers, elevators and other conveying installations.

Special attention is paid to conveyor belts to protect the material being transported and to protect the environment from dust.
