… the behaviour of a pilotis building, strengthened through application of two reinforced concrete shear walls in x direction, and two reinforced masonry walls (gunite) in y direction, is examined. Push Over analysis gives an increase in strength by 2.5 times, and a 25% displacement reduction. No plastic hinge appeared over the whole height of the shear wall, and the expected damages in reinforced concrete members and brick walls have been reduced to within acceptable limits. In the direction of the reinforced masonry walls, similar behaviour has been observed, as well as rocking at the wall base, which in an acceptable situation. This method of strengthening is proven to be very successful, as it minimizes storey damage, and also prevents collapse in case of larger‐scale quakes…
