It is a railway pre-cast bridge, with two spans of 33 meters each, as the overpass to a highway in Saudi Arabia.
It is one of the bridges of the new high-speed railway connection between Damam and Jubail.
The specialties of the bridge are – firstly – the greatly increased freight of the commercial train and – secondly – the high speed of the train that reaches 250 km/h.
The abutments and the central pier of the bridge were founded on piles.
The longitudinal T-beams, 33 meters long and 2.5 meters high, were manufactured as pre-cast reinforced-concrete beams and post-tensioned on site before being placed to their final position.
The laying of the beams was made in a very short time with a 200 tons’ capacity lifting equipment.
The arrangement of the elastic bearings in the longitudinal and transverse directions is also very interesting in order to meet the strict limits of displacements under the following types of loads: temperature, train braking and setting out, wind and earthquake.
The deck slab and the transverse beams were cast in situ.
